A Hoax

Incandescent vapours of sunshine,
Forms on Orphic pattern of hope, miseries.
I walk like a daydream, butter on paper.
Found to the known, lost to the soil..who am I?
Imbricated like orange peels,
Stuck like a star-dust to my mundane house ceilings.
Where, roses and feathers caress my faith,
Only to know, this table and burning body is all just a hoax.

  1. I really love everything about this piece. It’s great title as it suggests that perhaps life is a hoax, planned up by some prankster. On a smaller scale, it is true, that the body (a simple vessel to ferry the soul through life) is a hoax and in the end means nothing. We die, the soul parts ways with the body, which is then cast aside. I like how you describe the setting sun, vapours, and the allusion to Orpheus and his journey to the underworld and back. I also really like how you describe the layers of yourself, likening them to overlapping orange peel. This piece really gets me thinking about my own place in this universe. Great writing, Devika!

    1. Yes, everthing is an illusion or a hoax as you guessed it perfectly. I really like how you get all the metaphors and hidden meaning behingd my verse.
You never fail in understanding the beauty behind the poetry, Alex!
Thank you so much, always a pleasure to be read by you.
