How I hurt

you would burn in waters,
if you could feel my skin now.
smudged dose of love, insipid flaky fingers
this arm hurts now from resurrecting my soul,
streams of rivers lynching my soft neck.

i long for love and loneliness altogether
cleaved moon dripping honey on pale skin.
you kept me breaking, like twings and forests.
sliced ounce of crooked lemon zest, burning.
it kept me hurting yet alive, you see.

i could feel the faulty facets
leaking sideways of my languid arms.
topsy turvy my tongue, this moment.

i am moth, sucking glaze from marigold,
camouflaging dust & bitter taste of you, perhaps.
this is me, this is survival now.
swallowing all that I see.

  2. Vivid pain, heartbreak, and love.
You had me entangled in your poetic web with the opening two lines.
“I long for love and loneliness together.” This line resonated deep inside of me. I thought I was the only person who could experience those contrasting needs simultaneously.

You might like the poem to the tune ‘As if in a Dream,’ by Li Qingzhao:
I often recall one sunset in the pavilion by the river.
Having drunk too much, I lost the way home.
My enthusiasm spent, I started back in my boat at dusk
But drifted by mistake into a thick patch of lotuses.
    Paddling hard to get through,
    Paddling hard to get through,
I startled a whole sandbar of egrets into flight.

  4. I don’t even know what word in the English language would do this justice.. Wish I could reach out and hug, for gestures are the purest and most potent language! Thank you for this, MVS 💛
