Anna

Pinterest

matching pink- stained
lips of mirrors
Anna, sew her flowers to the hair
like an oil-painting smiling,
something conjuring about her patterns,
the wavelength, the folds
all magical maybe.
Anna, in her mid 20’s
auburn ductile head & hair
with sheets of transparent
cling film, susurrus body.

a wife & a mother
with tunnels of story
sun-flower hands of mercury
now shifting,
her body movements
inch by inch,
in darkness & solitude
a shape shifter,
a fortune-teller,
rose collector,
Anna is all of it,
a crooked truth.
you pluck a flower
& the land becomes barren.

  1. It’s lovely! The last line completed the entire poem which is wrapped around the lushness of life, flowers blooming all the way filling the garden of life and well with time the garden starts losing its lushness and what remains is the barren land of loneliness.

  2. I have read it multiple times and everytime I discover something new. May be it’s to do with Anna and her innocence being taken away and the last line signifying the same. I had misses the part where you’ve mentioned Anna being in her mid 20s.

      1. By the way! I commented on your last one, too, but I am not sure if the comment went to spam. I know that’s been happening a lot lately!

like an oil-painting smiling,” This is superb devika…comparing Anna sewing flowers to her hair with oil painting is damn good and giving life to mirror and telling about her lips is soo good๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ…and then you started telling story about her,by expressing lines like patterns, magical folds, sussurus body…..These lines really creates curiousity in knowing annas past….”

    now shifting,
    her body movements
    inch by inch,
in darkness & solitude…..these lines clearly states about annas dark past..but your poetic intelligence is very nice here, like tumbles of story, sunflower hands of mercury, and then shifting her hands inch by inch to darkness…very well portrayed..too good..”a shape shifter,

    you pluck a flower
& the land becomes barren”and in ending you told how she is mixture of different emotions and personalities..but the last line was fantabulous..plucking that rose can make land barren..powerful..I mean it says that anna has almost nothing left, but there is something that dragging her to live may be for child of her or for husband,or anything, you expressed that as flower…I loved this very much..I mean it’s Soo simple, yet powerful, and too poetic..felt like a mansion rainbowโค๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’œ

    1. Yes, the character is simple yet powerful I feel. There are so many girls or souls who must be resonating with her character, as you stated.

I so love your detailed review each time you throw it on my blog. Really appreciate your words, Kalyan.
      Thank you!

  4. I loved how you have described the character of Ana with the flowers she is wearing on her head and the flowers signifying the bare sense of happiness in her life.
How her life which was blooming before is slowly turning into a sense of loneliness, the more you pluck flowers from her life the more barren she becomes.
