The world is a scorching lie, it gallops the light
swallowing the other half of a stale melon
climbing the stairs in a descending order
rubbing alcohol to one’s eye
the flaccid numb lugubrious eye
throwing dust in the basket of an old lady
And then cherishing the gaze of a falling star
crossing hair strands to form an impeccable knot,
I see, hardened rock in my navel, smothered like a beggar’s face.
The cryptic resonance, the elliptical sunrise
An egg-shaped lie.
Then, I see the light, white light adorning the dark background
forming patterns, jigsaw puzzles
Imbrication of susurrous paths, my eyelids wide open only
to scratch the remains of dirt
to pick up the lost child
and dancing towards the little loop of hope.
Marvellous imagery!

A number of your recent pieces are quite the puzzles to unravel.
This is a particularly strong line and image: “climbing the stairs in a descending order.”
You end with a very strong line 2 lines…
“to pick up the lost child
and dancing towards the little loop of hope”
It ends on a positive note, but leaves the reader to re-read the poem several times as well as a series of about 4 poems that hold together in a similar puzzle of a unit….
One senses…there is more yet to solve in this puzzle.

Yes you take it all well, poetry is something left for the readers to unravel. This was a positive one though.
Thank you for such a warm response Forrest,it means a lot after coming back.

This is another wonderful flood of words from your pen, MVS. I love many of the images you’ve created here, especially the one of climbing descending stairs – such beautiful juxtaposition to remind us that even when we climb, we may actually be moving backwards, instead of forwards, but climb we do as hope guides is. I also love the image of a diamond, perhaps, laying at the center of your navel. And then, there is the loop. The loop is a great symbol of hope. The loop is continuous so it reminds us that even when hope fades, it will cycle back again. It also permits passageway representing life’s forward motion and within that there is hope. Then there is your usual, signature use of language. Imbrication and susurrous are great words to describe the overlapping and whispering paths that are, perhaps, the eyelids. And, in the end, reestablishing a connection with the inner child is hope in a nutshell, for if we can harness the power of that inner child, we reclaim our innocence, something most of us adults loose and never get back. Beautiful, deep and inspirational, as always.

You are most welcome, MVS but it really is my pleasure. There are many great poets out there whose work I admire and read regularly but yours is among the top because I love a writer who is unique, has a great command of language (literal and figurative) and has a depth that can only be discovered after peeling away the layers built within the poetry. You happen to be such a writer and I feel privileged each time I get to read your work. May your day continue to bless you. Peace to you, my friend!

Well done, My Valiant Soul! That was a brilliant poem. I love the way you combine such lovely imagery to create a dreamlike quality. I’ve read some of your other poems as well. You remind me a lot of Pablo Neruda. Your poems share a lot of similarities with his poems in the collection ”20 love poems and a song of despair.”

So thrilled to read you comment friend. Believe it or not I am currently reading 20 love poems only by my inspiration Mr.Neruda and you literally made my day by resonating my words with him. Although he is the best and I am no where around him but I am so humbled to read your gracious words. Thank you so much.☺

As a poetess and a student of Spanish literature, I’m constantly hunting for outstanding poems to devour. Of course, Neruda being a classic, I had to get my hands on his collections. Most of his poems are sensual gems. When I read your poems, I was reminded of that lush sensuality.

Aww, I am so honoured now!
Pablo Neruda has something that clearly makes him distinctive in his style. I have already devoured him since I remember and I always find his writings absolutely stunning.

I agree. Though I have to admit I enjoyed much more his two collections ”20 love poems and a song of despair” as well as ”100 love sonnets” than ”The Captain’s Verses”.
